Tale of the Triclops

When I was born

I had three eyes

And the world said

Poor child

She has a deficit

She needs three eyes to see

Let us pray that she learns to adapt

To needing only two

As we have.

And they plucked out one eye

With a smile of compassion

Born of ignorance.

I was born with two stomachs

And the world said

Poor child

She is not able to digest with only one

Let us help her overcome

The trouble of having two

And get her nutrition in a simple manner

As we do.

And they would feed me only soured milk.

I was born

With my brain on fire

And the world said

Poor child

Surely this display of light and passion

Causes her much pain and delusion

And they poured their holy water

On my flame

And said “Praise God -

See how still

She now lies.”

I was born

With two hearts

And the world said

Surely this taxes her system

Beyond that which she can bear

And they pierced one heart

Not knowing

It was joined to the second

Causing both to die

And they said “What a pity.

It is a shame we couldn’t help her more”.

And there was darkness for a time.

Then God moved across the face of the waters and said

“Let there be light”

And I was born

And I had three eyes

And the world said

Poor child

She has a deficit

She needs three eyes to see

Let us pray that she learns to adapt

To needing only two

As we have.

And they tried to pluck out one eye

But I opened my mouth and said

“No.”
