The Kindest Thing I Can Do

The kindest thing I can do
Is to do nothing at all
I cannot fix this with action
So absence rolls the ball

You found comfort in my efforts
And to them you've now grown numb
But you don't know how to handle it
If I too seem deaf and dumb

With no one to rail against
Will you finally learn to walk?
With no one feeding you the answers
Will you finally learn to talk?

The kindest thing I can do
Is to not take down your world
But I can't live in it, can't fix it,
can't salute the flag you've unfurled.

Perhaps the kindest move
Is to stand perfectly still
And see what you do when you notice
And hope things begin to heal.
